Gibran's Promises for NTT: Attention to Honorary Teachers and Agricultural Equipment Assistance
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has made several promises to residents in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), including attention to the fate of honorary teachers and Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK), as well as assistance for agricultural tools and machinery (alsintan).
These promises were expressed by Gibran during his visit to Kupang, NTT, on Monday (6/4/2026). The visit was to attend the Easter Parade Festival in Kupang City.
Attention to the Fate of Honorary Teachers and PPPK
In addition to attending the Easter Parade Festival, Gibran also visited SD Inpres Kaniti in East Penfui Village, Central Kupang Subdistrict, Kupang Regency, NTT. On that occasion, he promised to pay attention to the fate of honorary teachers and PPPK at the school.
“Earlier, he conveyed that there will be attention to honorary teachers and PPPK,” said the Principal of SD Inpres Kaniti, Yuliana Nenabu, after Gibran’s visit on Monday.
Yuliana explained that her school has 10 PPPK teachers and 9 honorary teachers. Meanwhile, the number of students is 420.
“We hope their fate is taken seriously so they can teach well because the number of students in this school is large,” Yuliana clarified.
According to her, this was Gibran’s second visit to SD Inpres Kaniti. The school was one of those that received Gibran’s attention during his first visit in 2025.
Yuliana explained that the visit by the son of Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was to check the renovation of 11 classrooms, the construction of three new rooms along with their furnishings, as well as one administrative room, one teachers’ room, and one toilet each.
“In addition, Vice President Gibran also donated 15 Chromebooks to our school,” said Yuliana.
Promise of Agricultural Machinery Assistance
Gibran also promised assistance for agricultural tools and machinery (alsintan) to farmers in Kupang. This promise was made during his visit to the GMIT Tarus Agroeduwista in Kupang Regency on Monday. Gibran assessed the importance of modernising agricultural tools to prevent post-harvest losses.
“We do not want the abundant harvest to be wasted because the tools are not yet modern. So, we do not want our farmer group friends and millennial friends who have worked hard morning, noon, and night, but the harvest results are damaged or wasted because they are still using manual tools,” said Gibran.
“We will assist with more modern tools to increase harvest production and also make it easier for these friends to work,” he added.
Gibran reminded the importance of maintaining consistency in managing the agroeduwisata area, especially in supporting the food supply chain. He also appreciated the management of the agroeduwisata area, which he deemed capable of involving the younger generation in the agricultural sector.
“What I like most here is the involvement of young people,” added the former mayor of Solo.
According to Gibran, the agricultural sector is one of the main focuses of President Prabowo Subianto. This includes food self-sufficiency and energy self-sufficiency.
“President has instructed that agricultural production must truly be intensified. We remain focused on succeeding the programmes and vision-mission of President Prabowo,” said Gibran.
It is known that this Agroeduwisata Park is managed by a farmer group under the GMIT Synod in collaboration with the Kupang State Agricultural Polytechnic. The area develops an integrated farming concept based on agroeduwisata, which combines agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, and livestock in one ecosystem.
Synod Chairman Asks Gibran to Side with NTT
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Synod of the Evangelical Christian Church in Timor (GMIT), Reverend Semuel Pandie, also shared various problems in NTT with Gibran. Including handling stunting, extreme poverty, the fate of migrant workers, and up to PPPK.
“We ask Mas Gibran to side with NTT, the centre of stunting, extreme poverty, migrant worker problems are here, violence against women and children is here, and the frightening rise in HIV/AIDS numbers is here,” said Semuel on Monday.
He also requested serious attention to NTT as a 3T region (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost). Semuel also touched on the fate of PPPK who are threatened with being laid off.
“We ask you to side with NTT, especially as one of the 3T regions that needs more fair attention and do not forget the fate of PPPK who yearn for a brighter future. Because true Easter is siding with the small, the fragile, and those who are struggling,” he explained.
During the Easter Parade Festival in Kupang City, Gibran joined in carrying the cross with the NTT Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena and several local youths. Wearing a light blue long-sleeved shirt and black trousers, Gibran took the time to take selfies with residents.
Gibran was also given a shawl by the GMIT Synod Chairman, Semuel Pandie, and a knitted hat from a disability group. On that occasion, Gibran was entrusted to release the participants of the GMIT Easter Parade in Kupang.
