Gibran Urges Teachers to Master AI: Don't Be Afraid to Upgrade Yourself
Bandung, West Java – The government under President Prabowo’s leadership continues to push ahead with strengthening mastery of science and technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), as the foundation for the nation’s progress. In line with that vision, Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka stressed the importance of ensuring readiness across all segments of society to face digital transformation, not excluding teachers and parents. He spoke during a review of the AI Ready ASEAN Workshop titled “Empowering Students for the Future: AI Literacy for a Digital ASEAN” held in Bandung Regency, West Java, on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. On that occasion, Gibran reminded that adaptation to technological advancements is not solely the responsibility of the younger generation. Educators and parents must also continually upgrade their capacities to guide children effectively amid the acceleration of the digital era. “Parents and teachers must not fall behind. Do not be afraid to upgrade your own capabilities,” he said. He said that mastery of AI will open access to broader information and knowledge. However, such ease of access must be balanced with strengthening critical thinking so that every piece of information obtained can be filtered, analysed, and utilised appropriately. “Critical thinking must be central, and computational thinking must also be central,” he added. Moreover, he stressed that technological progress, including AI, is an inevitability that cannot be avoided. Its presence should be viewed as a strategic instrument supporting human activity across sectors, from education and the economy to public services. Therefore, the use of AI must be conducted wisely, ethically, and in accordance with its function. Gibran said the right adaptation by teachers and parents is expected to ensure the younger generation not only excels technically but also possesses integrity, responsibility, and maturity in utilising technology. He reiterated the urgency of capacity building for educators. “Once again, I urge you, teachers—mothers and fathers—must not be left behind. And do not be afraid to upgrade yourself,” he concluded.
