Gibran undeterred about visiting Yahukimo despite previous security delay
Yahukimo, Papua Pegunungan - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka stated that he is undeterred about visiting Yahukimo Regency in Papua Pegunungan, even though a previous opportunity was delayed due to security reasons.
During a dialogue with TNI soldiers’ families at Koramil 1715/06 Dekai, Yahukimo, on Tuesday, Vice President Gibran explained that among his series of visits to Papua—including Nabire, Mimika, Sorong, and heading to Raja Ampat—the visit to Yahukimo was the most challenging.
“Clearly, from this three-day visit to Nabire, Mimika, and later to Sorong, Yahukimo is the most challenging. But that’s fine, I don’t feel deterred, I don’t feel… because (it was) previously failed to come here,” Gibran said.
Yahukimo Regency is an area prone to security disturbances due to the presence of Armed Criminal Groups (KKB).
Vice President Gibran was previously scheduled to visit Yahukimo for the first time in January 2026, but it was postponed due to security reasons.
At that time, Vice President Gibran was supposed to arrive in Yahukimo after completing his working visit in Wamena.
However, based on intelligence considerations, there was movement from irresponsible groups, so Gibran postponed his visit to Yahukimo.
Gibran is committed to revisiting Yahukimo so that President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programmes, such as Free Nutritious Meals (MBG), Free Health Checks (CKG), and food centres, can be optimised.
In a dialogue with the Association of Army Wives (Persit) in Yahukimo, Gibran wants those priority programmes to be utilised by the local residents.
“I just want to implement all of President Father’s priority programmes, and in the end, the ones who benefit are the people. I also entrust this because there are many Persit mothers, their children are still young. Have some already received MBG? It needs to be pushed so that everyone gets it, because MBG should be prioritised in remote areas,” Gibran said.
Gibran also appreciated the TNI soldiers who have secured the situation, allowing the working visit in Yahukimo at three locations to proceed smoothly.
During three hours in Yahukimo, Gibran inspected the implementation of MBG at Yahukimo Christian School, health facilities at Dekai Regional General Hospital, and dialogued with TNI families at Koramil 1715/06 Dekai, which serves as the headquarters for Yonif 5 Marines and Taipur/Timsus 303 for securing the Yahukimo area.
On the visit to Yahukimo, Gibran was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk, Executive Committee Chairman for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy Development in Papua Velix Wanggai, and Deputy Governor of Papua Pegunungan Ones Pahabol.
