Gibran Stresses Public Transport Must Be Safe for Pregnant Women, Elderly, and Disabled

JAKARTA - Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, emphasised several important aspects that public transportation must possess. “The most important thing once again is that it is safe and comfortable for children, women, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities,” said Gibran, after inspecting the MRT Phase 2 construction project in the Harmoni area, Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/5/2026). According to Gibran, modern public transportation is one of the priorities of President Prabowo Subianto. “I am confident that if public transportation is safe, comfortable, modern, and integrated, everyone will flock to use it. The key is that it is safe, comfortable, integrated, and modern,” he stated. Gibran also expressed appreciation for Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung regarding his commitment to the public transportation sector. “And I greatly appreciate the innovative breakthroughs from the Governor regarding public transportation in Jakarta, which now waives fares for 15 groups. This is extraordinary. Including groups such as the elderly, people with disabilities, this is truly remarkable,” he said.
