Gibran Responds to Roy Suryo and Tifa's Detention, Wishes Them a Speedy Recovery
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has responded to the detention of Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, known as Doctor Tifa, urging all parties to follow the legal process and wishing them a swift recovery. Speaking during a working visit to Asmat Regency, Papua Selatan, on Sunday, Gibran said he had heard both individuals were receiving treatment at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital. ‘Just follow the existing process and, most importantly, let us pray for the best for Mr Roy Suryo and Doctor Tifa,’ he told reporters. The two are suspects in an alleged defamation and slander case concerning the authenticity of former President Joko Widodo’s academic diploma. Their lawyer, Refly Harun, stated on Friday that while their general condition is good, medical examinations revealed pre-existing conditions requiring monitoring and further treatment. Doctors assessed that they were not yet fit to resume activities without medical supervision and recommended inpatient care to ensure their condition remains stable during observation. Harun noted that Roy initially did not plan to be hospitalised but accepted the medical advice after discussions with his family and legal team. The duration of their hospital stay remains uncertain and will depend on their progress and the medical team’s decision.
