Gibran Requests Involvement of Ad Hoc Judges in Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka is pushing for the involvement of ad hoc judges in the trial of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS.
Gibran stated that justice must be present in a tangible way within society. According to him, the legal process must also proceed honestly, openly, and accountably.
Gibran mentioned that the government is committed to supporting the strengthening of the judicial system to make it increasingly fair and trusted.
“Therefore, the direct involvement of professionals with strong track records and integrity as ad hoc judges in the acid attack court on Brother Andrie Yunus is very important to maintain public trust and the honour of the law,” Gibran said in a written statement on Thursday (9/4).
Gibran wants justice not only to be enforced but also to be believed in by society.
Andrie became the victim of the acid attack on Thursday night (12/3).
KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the incident occurred after Andrie Yunus attended a podcast event titled “Remilitarism and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), around 23:00 WIB.
“He was attacked with acid splashing by Unknown Persons (OTK), resulting in serious injuries across his body, particularly on the right and left hands, face, chest, and eye area,” he said in a written statement on Friday (13/3).
Less than a week later, on Wednesday (18/3), TNI’s Puspom arrested four members suspected of being involved in the incident.
The four are NDP with the rank of captain, SL and BHW with the rank of first lieutenant (lettu), and ES with the rank of second sergeant (serda).
They serve in the Detachment Headquarters of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (Denma BAIS) TNI, originating from the Navy and Air Force. Recently, investigators from Puspom TNI have completed the entire series of investigation processes for the case.
Then on Tuesday (7/4), the case file, suspects, and evidence of the criminal act were handed over by Puspom TNI investigators to Otmil II-07 Jakarta, to subsequently examine the completeness of the formal and material requirements file.
“If the file is declared complete, it will be handed over to the Military Court II-08 Jakarta. The suspects handed over number four people with initials: NDP, SL, BHW, ES along with evidence,” said the Head of TNI Information Centre (Kapuspen) TNI Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah in a written statement.
