Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka responded to the statement by Commission II House of Representatives member Deddy Sitorus, who suggested that the government, including the vice president, should immediately occupy the Nusantara Capital (IKN). Instead, he invited members of parliament from the PDIP faction to join in officing at the prospective centre of Indonesia’s government.

“Thank you for the input from the honourable Member of Parliament Mr Deddy Sitorus. Later, we will all office together in IKN,” Gibran said in a written statement sent by the Vice President’s Secretariat on Thursday, 9 April 2026.

According to Gibran, IKN is set to officially become Indonesia’s capital in two years’ time. Therefore, infrastructure to support the government must indeed be ensured to be ready promptly.

“Because IKN has been designated as the political capital in 2028, state administration from the executive, judicial, and legislative sides must be fulfilled,” he stated.

Deddy raised the issue of the discourse on Vice President Gibran occupying IKN during a Commission II DPR meeting with the Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, on 30 March. Deddy assessed that IKN needs to be utilised immediately, considering the substantial budget poured into building the new capital in East Kalimantan.

According to Deddy, the IKN buildings need to be occupied so that the structures do not deteriorate and maintenance funds are not wasted in vain. He suggested rotating one director general per month there. “Or the vice president; I’ve been requesting that for a long time—Vice President, Minister of Forestry, Minister of Villages, Minister of Transmigration,” Deddy said.

Meanwhile, Basuki Hadimuljono stated that the Vice President’s Office has been completed, so Gibran can immediately occupy it. “As for me, my house is now there. So I hope that happens; there will be him truly officing there. That’s my hope,” Basuki said, quoted from Antara.
