Gibran Presents Gift Hamper to Rismon Following Restorative Justice Plea in Jokowi Diploma Case
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming presented Eid gift hampers to digital forensics expert Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar following their meeting at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday, 13 March.
Rismon, named as a suspect in a defamation case involving accusations that Jokowi’s diploma is fraudulent, met with Gibran after reversing his position in the diploma matter. The meeting lasted approximately one hour, from 10:00 until around 11:00 Western Indonesian Time. Following the meeting, Rismon invited fellow suspects Roy Suryo and Dr Tifa to discuss evidence of the authenticity of Jokowi’s undergraduate diploma from Gadjah Mada University (UGM).
“I am inviting Mr Roy Suryo and others to openly gather with journalists, and I will demonstrate my methodology—how lighting at a certain angle can eliminate certain colours that are chromatically or in integer value close to other colours,” Rismon stated.
A total of eight suspects are involved in the defamation case at Jakarta Metro Police. Through his book Jokowi’s White Paper, Rismon previously attempted to prove scientifically that Jokowi’s diploma was fraudulent.
However, he is now following the path of fellow suspect Eggi Sudjana, who filed for restorative justice first, resulting in his case being discontinued. After vigorously accusing Jokowi’s diploma of being fake, Rismon now believes that the diploma of Indonesia’s seventh president is genuine.
“There is no digital manipulation as I concluded in the Jokowi’s White Paper book. What does that mean? Its authenticity is preserved,” Rismon said after being received by Jokowi at his residence in Solo, Central Java, on Thursday, 12 March.
A day earlier, Rismon had also met Jokowi at his Sumber residence in Solo, Central Java. Following the meeting, he apologised to his host. Rismon stated that he is now conducting new research that will reveal contrary scientific facts about Jokowi’s diploma.
“As an independent researcher who is responsible and unbiased, with no connection to any political affiliation, a researcher must be able to acknowledge his mistakes and correct his own findings,” he said in Solo.
Legal Proceedings
The legal process against Rismon and seven other suspects has been ongoing for approximately one year since Jokowi filed a report on 30 April 2025. Jakarta Metro Police designated them as suspects on 7 November 2025, dividing them into two clusters.
The first cluster consists of five suspects: Eggi Sudjana, Kurnia Tri Rohyani, Damai Hari Lubis, Rustam Effendi, and Muhammad Rizal Fadillah. They are charged under Criminal Code Articles 310 and/or 311, and/or Article 160, and/or Article 27a read together with Article 45(4) and/or Article 28(2) read together with Article 45a(2) of the Information and Electronic Transactions Law.
The second cluster comprises three suspects: Roy Suryo, Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, and Tifauziah Tyassuma (Dr Tifa). They are charged under Criminal Code Articles 310 and/or 311, and/or Article 32(1) read together with Article 48(1) and/or Article 35 read together with Article 51(1) and/or Article 27a read together with Article 45(4) and/or Article 28(2) read together with Article 45a(2) of the Information and Electronic Transactions Law.
The cluster division is based on each suspect’s role. For instance, the first cluster is charged under Criminal Code Article 310 regarding defamation.
The second cluster, meanwhile, faces charges not only of defamation but also of Article 32(1) of the Information and Electronic Transactions Law concerning illegal access to others’ electronic documents.
Following Eggi’s example, Rismon has also filed for restorative justice (RJ) in his status as a suspect in the second cluster. Kombes Iman Imanuddin, Director of General Criminal Investigation at Jakarta Metro Police, stated that the RJ application was submitted early the previous week.
Nevertheless, police have not yet disclosed the status of Rismon’s RJ application.
“So a few days ago or a week ago, the person in question, Mr RHS, together with his legal counsel, submitted an application for restorative justice facilitation to the investigator,” Iman told journalists on Wednesday, 11 March.
