Gibran Mourns Three TNI Soldiers Killed in Lebanon, Supports UN Investigation

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has conveyed deep condolences over the deaths of three TNI members who were carrying out the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.

“I convey my deepest condolences over the passing of Captain Inf. Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sertu Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Praka Farizal Rhomadhon in the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in Lebanon,” Gibran said in a written statement on Wednesday (1/4).

He expressed the highest respect for the dedication of the soldiers who had carried out their duty to maintain world peace.

Gibran fully supports the conduct of a thorough investigation by the UN regarding the incident.

“I fully support the carrying out of a thorough investigation by the UN and careful handling in accordance with the directives of President Prabowo, including maximum efforts regarding the process of repatriating the bodies,” he said.

A total of three TNI soldiers serving in the peacekeeping force were killed in two attacks in southern Lebanon within a 24-hour period.

The first attack occurred on Sunday at the Indonesian unit’s post near the village of Adchit Al Qusayr, which killed Praka Farizal Rhomadhon.

The second attack occurred on Monday when an Indonesian troop vehicle was passing near Bani Hayyan. Captain Inf. Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sertu Muhammad Nur Ichwan fell in that incident.

The attacks also injured several personnel, with three wounded in the Sunday attack and two others in the Monday attack.
