Gibran meets mothers and babies in emergency tents to ensure needs are met
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming held discussions with several mothers who had recently given birth and were being treated in the emergency ward of TC Hillers Maumere Regional General Hospital following the earthquake in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, to ensure residents’ needs were being met.
While inspecting TC Hillers Regional Hospital in Sikka, East Nusa Tenggara, on Thursday, Vice President Gibran visited the emergency treatment ward located in the hospital grounds and spoke with a mother who had given birth to a baby girl after the earthquake on Saturday (15/8).
“Please have the covering added later,” the Vice President told hospital management after noticing sunlight penetrating through gaps in the tent covering.
On the occasion, the Vice President also assured patients, most of whom were mothers who had given birth, that post-earthquake handling would continue to be improved so that patients could return to being treated in proper rooms and their homes could be repaired.
During the dialogue, Sikka Regent Juventus Prima Yoris Kago even joked that the Vice President should name one of the newborn babies.
In addition to inspecting the emergency treatment tents, the Vice President also toured the hospital facilities, including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for newborns requiring intensive care. He also paid special attention to several babies being treated outside the rooms.
Earlier, Vice President Gibran, during his post-earthquake response visit to East Nusa Tenggara, had inspected Wairklau State Elementary School to visit evacuees and observed the damage to Laurentius Say Port in Maumere caused by the earthquake.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that as of Wednesday (19/8) at 20.00 Western Indonesia Time, a total of 71 fatalities had been recorded as a result of the earthquake in the East Nusa Tenggara region.
Meanwhile, the total number of displaced people across East Nusa Tenggara currently stands at 59,647, with the largest number of evacuees located in Manggarai.
