Gibran Invites UI Students to Visit Earthquake Victims in NTT

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, together with representatives of psychology students from the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Indonesia, departed for East Nusa Tenggara Province on Thursday, 20 August 2026 to carry out state duties while ensuring that post-disaster handling and recovery are proceeding optimally on the ground.

The visit is also part of the government’s effort to observe first-hand the conditions of communities affected by the disaster and to ensure their needs during the emergency response period are being met. This allows the government’s recovery measures to be adjusted according to the actual conditions and needs of the people.

In addition, on this occasion Gibran also opened space for students to take on a role, particularly in assisting with trauma healing for victims in the disaster-affected areas. In his view, the spirit and concern of young people need to be facilitated so that they can be realised in concrete actions that help affected communities.

Gibran considers student involvement to be an important part of the spirit of gotong royong in facing disasters. For this reason, the government is not only ensuring that the needs of the community are addressed, but also encouraging the younger generation to be present and contribute according to their capacity and expertise.

During the working visit to NTT, Gibran will inspect a number of disaster-affected locations as well as basic public service facilities in several areas, namely Sikka, Manggarai and East Manggarai regencies.

Gibran’s presence represents the state’s presence among communities affected by the disaster, because guaranteeing public safety is the state’s responsibility and meeting the needs of affected residents is a priority. At the same time, collaboration between the government, the community, students and various elements of the nation serves as a collective strength in accelerating the recovery process.
