Vice President Gibran Rakabuming visited SD Inpres LXXVI Wairklau in Sikka Regency on Thursday (20/08/2026). The school is one of the buildings affected by the earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara Province last weekend.

The SD LXXVI Wairklau building suffered damage in various areas, particularly the roof. The school is now being used as a temporary evacuation post.

Vice President Gibran inspected the condition of the building and checked on residents sheltering in emergency tents in the school grounds. “Have the children eaten?” the Vice President asked.

“The children have no injuries or anything, right? No injuries? Safe, yes?” Vice President Gibran continued, seeking reassurance.

In addition to checking on the fulfilment of residents’ basic needs, he also wanted to ensure that children’s educational needs remain a government priority amid the post-disaster response in the surrounding area. He stressed that post-disaster recovery is not only about restoring the physical condition of educational facilities, but also ensuring that children can return to learning safely, comfortably, and receive the support they need.

During this working visit, Vice President Gibran brought along a number of students from the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Indonesia so that they could play a role in helping with trauma recovery for victims in the disaster area.
