Gibran inspects facilities and readiness of Fishermen's Village in East Lampung

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka inspected the Merah Putih Fishermen’s Village (KNMP) in Margasari Village, Labuhan Maringgai Subdistrict, East Lampung Regency, on Friday, to ensure the readiness of facilities and operations in the fishing area. Based on information received, the government under President Prabowo Subianto’s leadership continues to promote the transformation of coastal areas through the development of KNMP as part of strengthening the people’s economy and modernising the national fisheries sector. During the visit, Gibran was accompanied by Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal, East Lampung Regent Ela Siti Nuryamah, and Director General of Capture Fisheries at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Lotharia Latif. The Vice President reviewed several supporting facilities for fishermen’s activities that have been built, including the fishermen’s fuel filling station (SPBN), portable frozen warehouse, and portable ice factory at KNMP. “Maximise the facilities and services so that the community can focus on fishing and increasing production results,” the Vice President stated. Margasari Village Head Wahyu Jaya said that the existence of integrated facilities at KNMP is expected to further support fishermen’s activities, not only during the fish catching process but also in the post-harvest stages. “With the frozen warehouse, the community can store their catch directly here,” he said after the inspection. “There is also a senkul (culinary centre), yes. The senkul provided could be processed products from the local community, characteristic ones, from fish processing as well, which can later become a characteristic that this is a coastal area with great potential,” Wahyu added. In addition, Wahyu also hopes that the development of KNMP can proceed sustainably and drive improvements in the welfare of coastal communities. Through the visit, the Vice President hopes that the marine and fisheries potential in East Lampung, which has flagship commodities such as pomfret, snapper, and grouper, can be further optimised. Thus, the area is expected to produce self-reliant, competitive, and prosperous fishermen’s villages and aquaculture villages while increasing the productivity of coastal communities.
