Gibran: Government Committed to Improving MBG and KDMP Governance
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has ensured the government’s commitment to improving the governance of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Programme and the Merah Putih Village/Sub-district Cooperatives (KDMP) to ensure that every rupiah benefits the community.
“The government is committed to improving the governance of MBG and KDMP to ensure that every rupiah truly provides benefits to the people,” Gibran stated in an official statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The Vice President stated that governance improvements are also being undertaken to ensure that the execution of both programmes is more precisely targeted, effective, efficient, and free from corrupt practices.
“This step is important to maintain public trust and increase the government’s fiscal capacity, thereby enhancing market confidence in the national economy,” said Gibran.
The government previously stated that it would improve the governance of the MBG programme following the inauguration of the new leadership ranks of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).
In addition to programme targeting, the BGN is also refining matters regarding the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG). Following a meeting with Commission IX of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Monday (15/6), the Deputy Head of the BGN, Agustina Arumsari, stated that BGN employees must not hold positions in SPGG to avoid conflicts of interest.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Cooperatives, Ferry Juliantono, estimates that approximately 40,000 KDMPs could begin operations by the end of 2026, alongside the accelerated development of supporting infrastructure for the programme in various regions.
He emphasised that the development of the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives will continue.
“However, operationalisation requires a qualitative approach; it must be based on feasibility studies as suggested by the DPR, and these village cooperatives must be profitable and so on. Therefore, a qualitative approach must also be applied,” said Ferry.
