Gibran Gives Quiz and Distributes Bicycle Prizes to Santri at KH Wahab Chasbullah's 55th Haul

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka distributed bicycles to two santri during his attendance at the 55th haul pengajian event for KH Wahab Chasbullah at Yayasan PP Bahrul Ulum, Tambakberas, Jombang, East Java, on Sunday morning (10/5/2026). He gave away the bicycles because the santri were able to answer the questions and quiz he posed. Initially, he asked the santri to emulate the attitude of KH Wahab Chasbullah. He then invited two santri to come forward to hear their answers to the question he gave: What makes you proud to be a santri? “Let’s get the bicycles out first. Just put them in front here. There are two bicycles. Perhaps the committee can select one female and one male. But answer the question first,” said Gibran, during his speech at the event, quoted from the YouTube footage of the Vice Presidential Secretariat, on Sunday. Afterwards, two santri, one male and one female, came to the stage. Before the santri answered, Gibran reminded them that there were no right or wrong answers. “Please answer this, there are no wrong answers, okay. The question is simple. What makes you proud to be a santri?” he asked. Hearing the question, the male santri named Ahmad Alfir Ismail from Magelang, Central Java, confidently answered. The motto is to be moral, knowledgeable, and active. He did not stop there, explaining the meaning of each motto one by one. The first motto he obtained because he had been guided by the dzuriyah, the masyaikh of Pondok Pesantren Bahrul Ulum, regarding adab, politeness, and good manners towards anyone. “Therefore, there is a paper ‘Al-adabu fauqal ilmi’, etiquette is more important than knowledge,” said Ahmad.
