Manokwari, Papua Barat (ANTARA) - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka gave away three bicycles and two musical instruments to five participants of the 14th National Church Choir Festival (Pesparawi) in Manokwari, Papua Barat, on Saturday. “Do you want a bicycle?” Gibran asked three children who were called onto the stage along with two teenagers. After asking their names and chatting briefly with the five Pesparawi participants, Gibran then asked the children to choose the colour of bicycle they wanted. “How do you get to school? By car? Later you can cycle, but get your parents’ permission first,” he told one of the children. For the two teenagers, he asked whether they would prefer a keyboard or a guitar. After the dialogue with the five participants, Gibran delivered a speech and expressed appreciation that Borasi Field could now be used for the National Pesparawi, following his visit in November 2025 when the venue was still under construction. He urged the people of Manokwari to wholeheartedly look after the facility. On that occasion, the Vice President also stressed that development is no longer concentrated solely in Java but is being spread evenly across all regions, including Papua Barat. “Development is no longer Java-centric, but Indonesia-centric. That is why Papua’s development is one of the President’s priorities,” Gibran said. Several development and community empowerment programmes that have been or will be implemented include the construction of hospitals, markets, the Trans Papua road, fishing villages, people’s schools, and the provision of free nutritious meals.
