Jakarta — Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has conveyed greetings for Nyepi New Year Saka 1948 to Hindu communities throughout Indonesia. The greetings were delivered by Gibran in a video uploaded to the YouTube account of the Indonesian Vice President’s Secretariat (Setwapres) on Sunday (15 March 2026).

“On this auspicious occasion, with utmost respect to my fellow Hindu communities across Indonesia, I extend greetings for the Nyepi New Year Saka 1948,” Gibran said.

Gibran hoped that the Nyepi momentum would bring peace and renewed spirit to Indonesian society. According to Gibran, this year is particularly special because several religious celebrations are taking place in close proximity to one another.

“This year is exceptionally special for the Indonesian nation because Chinese New Year celebrations coincide with Ramadan fasting observances, whilst Nyepi celebrations occur in close proximity to Eid al-Fitr celebrations,” Gibran stated.

He viewed this momentum as evidence that diversity in Indonesia is not something to be contested or disputed. “This moment affirms that Indonesia’s diversity is not a matter of contention. Rather, it is the nation’s strength, capable of living side by side in beautiful harmony,” Gibran remarked.

Gibran noted that diversity has been integral to Indonesia’s national identity for a long time. He called upon all citizens to be grateful for and to nurture the pluralism that Indonesia possesses.

“This is a gift from Almighty God to Indonesia. And as the nation’s children, we are obliged to be grateful for and to care for our diversity,” Gibran said.
