Gibran Conveys Message of Unity as Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr Celebrations Converge
Jakarta — Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has stated that the convergence of major religious celebrations in 2026 underscores that diversity constitutes a strength of the Indonesian nation.
Gibran made the statement in a video uploaded to the YouTube channel of the Office of the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia (@Setwapres) on Sunday, 15 March 2026.
According to Gibran, this year is particularly significant because several major religious celebrations occur in close proximity to one another.
He assessed that this momentum demonstrates that Indonesia’s diversity is not something to be contested.
“This momentum affirms that Indonesia’s diversity is not something to be set in opposition. Rather, it is a national strength capable of living side by side in beautiful harmony,” Gibran stated.
Gibran noted that diversity has been the defining characteristic of the Indonesian nation for a long time.
“This is the national identity we possess — one with diversity in beliefs, ethnicities and traditions, yet remaining united through bonds of brotherhood,” he said.
“This is a blessing from Almighty God for Indonesia, and as citizens of this nation we have an obligation to be grateful for and to preserve our diversity,” Gibran remarked.
