Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka is confident that the public will switch to using public transport if the modes of transport are safe, comfortable, modern, and integrated, including the Jakarta integrated rapid transit system (MRT). This was stated by Gibran after inspecting the Jakarta MRT Phase 2A project from Harmoni to Sawah Besar in Jakarta on Tuesday, which has currently reached 59.76% progress. “This modern public transport is one of the President’s priorities. I am confident that if the public transport is safe, comfortable, modern, and integrated, everyone will flock to use it,” said Gibran. During the inspection, Gibran was accompanied by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, and PT MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat. The group directly reviewed the progress of underground construction, including a journey through the MRT tunnel. According to him, this policy needs to be accompanied by improvements in the quality of safe and comfortable transport services for vulnerable groups. “The most important thing once again is safety and comfort for children, women, pregnant mothers, the elderly, and people with disabilities,” he said. “Now Transjakarta also serves agglomeration areas,” he added. Based on data as of 25 April 2026, the construction of Jakarta MRT Phase 2A from Bundaran HI to Kota has reached 59.76% progress. Construction work, including the construction of station walls (diaphragm wall) and structures in the Duta Merlin area, continues to proceed. In addition, underground tunnel connectivity from Sawah Besar Station to Harmoni can now be traversed for technical project work purposes.
