Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka expressed concern regarding an attack on KontraS (Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence) activist Andrie Yunus. This statement was conveyed through the Vice President’s Special Staff, Tina Talisa.

“Acts of violence such as this cannot be justified in the life of a nation and state that upholds law, humanity, and democratic values,” said Tina in a written statement on Sunday, 15 March 2026.

She stated that the state has an interest in ensuring that cases of violence against citizens are handled seriously and justly. According to her, President Prabowo Subianto has also directed law enforcement officials to thoroughly investigate this attack.

“The state is committed to continuing to strengthen protection for citizens and ensuring that democratic space remains safeguarded,” she said.

The government, according to Tina, guarantees that victims of violence will receive medical treatment as well as recovery support. She stated that the safety of every citizen, including maintaining a healthy and open democratic space, is a government priority.

Tina appealed to all parties to place their trust in the legal process that is currently underway. She also called on all segments of society to maintain a conducive situation. “We continue to monitor developments in the law enforcement process that is taking place,” she said.

Previously, Andrie Yunus was doused with acid whilst on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026. Andrie was attacked with a corrosive solution by two unknown individuals riding a motorcycle.

The perpetrators approached from the opposite direction to Andrie. KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the perpetrators poured acid onto the front of Andrie’s body.

After being doused with acid, Andrie collapsed onto the road whilst screaming in pain. Dimas recounted that shortly before the incident, Andrie had just completed recording a podcast titled “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review in Indonesia” at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) in Central Jakarta, at approximately 23:00 WIB on Thursday evening.

The corrosive chemical affected Andrie’s right side, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands. Part of his clothing also melted from the acid.

According to medical records, Andrie sustained burns covering 24 percent of his body. Andrie Yunus also underwent eye surgery as a result of exposure to the corrosive liquid.
