Gibran Chides Village Heads Over KDMP Displacing Ende School
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka visited two schools in Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Thursday (19/6/2026), where he addressed the controversy surrounding a Red and White Village Cooperative (KDMP) that allegedly displaced part of the SDN Wolomoni state primary school building in Niowula Village, Detusoko District. “Therefore, village heads and district heads must pay close attention to the cooperative’s location, whether any party is disadvantaged, and the impact must be thoroughly assessed. It must not compete with village-owned enterprises (Bumdes) or residents’ grocery stalls. Ensure this becomes a mutually reinforcing ecosystem. Please ensure the site selection is carefully studied and discussed with residents so that no one is affected or harmed,” Gibran stated in a video of his visit to SDN Wolomoni released by the Vice Presidential Secretariat on Friday (19/6/2026).
During a visit to SMPN 1 Ndona Ende, the Vice President said the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) would be evaluated during the school holidays. He noted that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme requires numerous improvements for more efficient management. “I believe input from parents is the most valuable. Not just school canteens, but also micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) around the school are, I think, very appropriate. We can involve Islamic boarding schools, churches, culinary vocational schools (SMK Tata Boga), PKK women’s groups, and parents—everyone can be involved,” he added.
Ende Regent Yosef Benediktus Badeoda confirmed that upon arriving at Hasan Aroeboesman Airport Ende, Gibran immediately inspected the MBG programme at SMPN Ndona before proceeding to SD Wolomoni. “He arrived at SD Wolomoni at 12.50 Wita, met with parents, and inspected the area affected by the KDMP construction,” Yosef said when contacted on Thursday evening. The regent expressed hope that the visit would provide encouragement and motivation for students, teachers, and the entire education community to continue improving learning quality and creating a safe, comfortable school environment that supports the development of the younger generation. “We realise that education is the main foundation for building the nation’s future. Therefore, the Ende Regency Government continues to strive to improve the quality of educational facilities and infrastructure, teacher competence, and equitable access to education for all children in the Ende Regency area,” he concluded.
