Gibran Calls on Muhammadiyah Youth to Take a More Active Role in 3T Area Development, Including Papua
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.COM - Vice-President Gibran Rakabuming invites Muhammadiyah Youth to be more active in strengthening development in the left-behind, frontier and outermost areas (3T), including in Papua.
‘I also urge my friends in Muhammadiyah Youth, Mr. Chairman Bang Fikar (President of Muhammadiyah Youth), to hold more frequent events or send their members to 3T areas,’ Gibran said when opening Tanwir II Muhammadiyah Youth Conference 2026 in Badung, Bali, on Thursday 21 May 2026, according to a press release.
According to him, the involvement of the youth generation is much needed to help ensure equitable access to education, health services and digital transformation in remote areas.
He also hopes Muhammadiyah Youth can directly observe conditions on the ground and contribute to development in those regions.
The former mayor of Solo even plans to invite colleagues from PP Muhammadiyah if they are willing to visit Papua.
‘If possible, perhaps our next visit we will invite Muhammadiyah Youth friends to Papua, so they can know the real situation there, and what the challenges are there,’ said Gibran. ‘Because Muhammadiyah Youth surely focuses on health and education matters.’
Moreover, the current global conditions are dynamic, so intergenerational collaboration among youths is needed.
‘These are moments full of dynamism; this is a global crisis, geopolitically uncertain, trade wars, tariff wars, climate change, disruption of technology; now is the time for young people, fellow youths to join hands,’ he said.
He also highlighted the demographic dividend which must be utilised optimally to improve the productivity and competitiveness of Indonesia’s youth.
‘And this is a very important, crucial moment, because this moment only comes once and will not be repeated. Therefore I reiterate: the youth must join hands,’ said Gibran.
