Vice President Gibran Rakabuming has stressed the importance of disaster response that is swift, integrated, and reaches all communities affected by the earthquake.

Gibran visited SD Inpres LXXVI Wairklau in Sikka Regency on Thursday (20/08/2026). The school is one of the buildings damaged by the earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara Province late last week.

The SD LXXVI Wairklau building suffered damage on various sides, particularly the roof. The school is now being used as a temporary evacuation post.

To ensure that the response is effective on the ground, the Vice President has asked all relevant officials not merely to wait for reports, but to go down directly to ensure every directive is implemented and that any obstacles are promptly addressed.

The Vice President affirmed that children’s educational needs remain a government priority amid the post-disaster recovery process affecting the surrounding area.

In addition to inspecting the school, Vice President Gibran also checked on residents’ worship facilities that are currently under construction.

During this working visit, Vice President Gibran brought along a number of students from the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Indonesia so that they could play a role in helping victims in the disaster area recover from trauma.
