Vice President Gibrint Rakabuming Raka has ensured that the management of forest and land fires (karhutla) in three provinces on Kalimantan Island is proceeding optimally after personally reviewing the conditions and progress of field operations.

During a working visit to Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan, on Thursday (10/09), the Vice President emphasised that fire management must be adapted to the conditions of each area. He noted that because the characteristics of locations and the challenges faced by officers are not always identical, control measures must be implemented precisely according to specific needs.

Gibran conducted working visits to Central Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, and West Kalimantan to directly observe the fire conditions and the mitigation steps taken by the government alongside relevant regional authorities.

The inspection covered the cities of Palangka Raya, Banjarbaru, and Kubu Raya Regency to obtain a factual overview of the progress in fire management, while ensuring that field requirements can be identified directly by the central government.

“Optimal management is not only determined by the ability to extinguish fires, but also by the readiness of personnel, the adequacy of operational support, and the government’s ability to respond to issues identified during field execution,” he stated.

Therefore, he added, both central and regional governments must ensure that every obstacle arising in fire management is promptly identified, so that resolution steps can be determined based on real conditions without waiting for problems to escalate.

Vice President Gibran emphasised the importance of implementing measured management so that every step taken can be evaluated for its results and truly provide an impact on fire control in the affected areas.

The Vice President’s visit is part of the government’s oversight of forest and land fire management in Kalimantan, as well as an effort to ensure that all regional measures align with field requirements and produce effective control.
