Gibran: AI Is Important for Supporting Learning Activities
Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka said the role of artificial intelligence is increasingly close to everyday human life. He said this when he inspected the AI Ready ASEAN Workshop titled ‘Empowering Students for the Future: AI Literacy for a Digital ASEAN’ in Bandung Regency, West Java.
‘The use of AI is very important for daily life, especially to support teaching and learning activities,’ Gibran said in a statement on Wednesday, 4 March 2026.
He said the introduction of contemporary technologies must be provided to the next generation from an early age. The aim, he said, is so that Indonesia’s youth will not fall behind in global technological development.
Gibran said he often visits schools to introduce AI literacy to pupils and students. This includes introducing robotics technology and developing students’ interest in the digital technology field.
Although the use of AI is considered important, Gibran reminded that there are rules and ethics in its deployment. ‘That is what needs to be considered,’ he said.
The AI literacy programme for pupils in West Java was attended by around 500 students. Gibran thanked the ASEAN Foundation and Google.org for supporting the programme’s continuation.
During his visit to West Java, Gibran also received a question from a student named Mirza Ali Musyafa. The student asked the vice president for his views on the environmental impact of AI technology development.
Gibran said maintaining a balance between technological progress and environmental sustainability is important. However, in his view, technological advancement often brings pluses and minuses for the environment.
‘The challenge is to find a middle ground. We want technology to develop, we want AI to be used widely, but environmental sustainability must also be taken into account,’ he said.
