JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming Raka has requested that the process of repatriating the bodies of three TNI soldiers who fell during the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (Unifil) be carried out to the maximum extent possible. Gibran also provided encouragement and support to the United Nations (PBB) to conduct an investigation into the deaths of the three TNI soldiers. “I fully support a comprehensive investigation by the PBB as well as careful handling in accordance with the directives of President Prabowo, including maximum efforts regarding the repatriation process of the bodies,” Gibran said in his statement on Wednesday (1/4/2026). In addition to providing encouragement and maximum efforts for the repatriation of the bodies, Gibran also expressed deep condolences over the falling of the TNI soldiers. “The highest respect for the dedication of the soldiers who have carried out their duties to maintain world peace,” Gibran continued. Similar demands have also been conveyed by the government through Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council, Umar Hadi. In an emergency session of the UN Security Council in New York, United States, on Tuesday (31/3/2026), Umar emphasised that the PBB must uncover the perpetrators behind the attack on the Unifil forces. The incident of the deaths of 3 TNI soldiers It is known that Unifil reported three Indonesian peacekeeping soldiers died within a period of less than 24 hours in southern Lebanon. On Monday (30/3/2026), the PBB stated that an explosion of “unknown origin” destroyed a vehicle near the municipality of Bani Haiyyan. In that incident, two TNI soldiers fell, while two others were injured, one of whom was in serious condition, quoted from CBC on Monday. He was reported dead when the Unifil base was hit by a projectile near the village of Adchit al-Qusayr, which is also in southern Lebanon.
