Gianyar Regency to Commence Sidewalk Improvements in Ubud from August 2026
Several sections of the pedestrian walkways or pavements on the Ubud-Campuhan main road, located in the Ubud District of Gianyar, are currently in a state of disrepair. The Gianyar Regency Government intends to begin construction on these pavements starting in August 2026.
“The execution of physical works will commence in August 2026, following the tendering process,” stated the Head of the Gianyar Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (PUPR), I Dewa Gede Putra Hartawan, in a statement on Monday (8/6/2026).
Hartawan noted that the planning documents for the new pavement construction were originally prepared by the Bali Provincial Government. This is because the road sections and public facilities in the area, including the pavements, fall under the jurisdiction of the Provincial Government. Currently, a review of these documents is being conducted before the construction plan is put out to tender.
The review is being carried out to ensure that the planning documents can be executed without flaws or errors, ensuring that the repairs and new pavement construction are implemented optimally and effectively.
“Regarding the handling of the pavements from Ubud Main Road to Campuhan Main Road, we at the Gianyar Regency PUPR Department are currently reviewing the Planning Documents,” Hartawan explained.
He further mentioned that the repairs and new pavement construction will not be limited to the Ubud-Campuhan stretch. Several other road sections within the Ubud district will also be evaluated and reorganised.
“The Gianyar Regency Government is fully committed to maintaining the comfort of the Ubud area as an international destination, through the comprehensive arrangement of pavements and pedestrian paths on Ubud’s main roads,” said Hartawan.
According to Hartawan, this initiative is a follow-up to the mandate of the Ubud Area White Paper, which has been submitted to the national level. “We continue to oversee this process to ensure that the tourism infrastructure development in Ubud can be realised comprehensively and sustainably,” he added.
