Gianyar Regency Promotes ICT-Based Library Transformation
Gianyar, Bali — The Gianyar Regency Government in Bali is encouraging local libraries to transform into Information and Communication Technology (ICT) based facilities to provide added value to public services.
“Libraries are no longer just places to store books; they must evolve into platforms for developing creativity to remain relevant to the needs of modern society,” said the Head of the Gianyar Regency Library and Archives Office, Ida Ayu Putu Eka Susanti, during the Library Day commemoration in Gianyar on Monday.
She explained that this step aligns with the Indonesian President’s priority programme, Asta Cita, particularly regarding the development of human resources, the environment, culture, and national character. To achieve this, three national policies are being implemented: the equalisation and quality improvement of services through institutional strengthening, the enhancement of accreditation standards, the provision of high-quality reading materials, and the expansion of digital access and mobile services.
“This Library Day commemoration reaffirms the significance of the library’s presence. Changes in how the public accesses and understands information demand that we ensure our work remains relevant,” she added.
To support these efforts, the office is conducting technical guidance on library management, attended by 90 library managers from primary schools and village/sub-district levels. This training is organised into three waves, running from 18 May to 3 June 2026.
The Chairman of the Technical Guidance Organizing Committee, I Gede Wayan Astina, explained that this guidance is held to improve the knowledge and skills of educators and officials at the village and sub-district levels who manage these libraries. The training is expected to encourage management and operations that comply with National Library Standards.
“Through this technical guidance, managers are expected to be able to provide maximum public service while simultaneously transforming from conventional libraries towards ICT-based systems,” he said.
