Gianyar Regency Holds Two-Day Cheap Market Ahead of Galungan-Kuningan
The Gianyar Regency administration is holding a cheap food movement (GPM) to welcome the Galungan and Kuningan holidays. Various staple foods from dozens of farmers, distributors and producers are being sold at prices lower than the market rate.
“The GPM is being held on the north side of Gianyar City Square from 11 May 2026 to 12 May 2026,” said the Head of the Gianyar Regency Food Security, Marine and Fisheries Office (DKPKP), I Gusti Agung Sri Widyawati, in a statement.
Widyawati explained that the food products on sale come from 25 participants in the cheap market. They consist of farmer groups, distributors, MSMEs, Bulog, Gianyar Regency-owned enterprises (BUMD), and food business operators.
The staple foods on offer include rice, cooking oil, granulated sugar, chicken eggs, shallots, garlic, chillies, fruits and various other food products. These products are sold at more affordable prices than the market rate.
Observation at the location showed high public enthusiasm. Since morning, residents were seen flocking to the activity area to buy various basic necessities at lower prices.
“Due to public demand, the GPM will be held for two days (11-12 June 2026), specifically for fruits,” Widyawati said.
According to Widyawati, through the implementation of the GPM, food price stability can be maintained. In addition, the availability of basic necessities for the community can also be fulfilled so that residents can observe the Galungan and Kuningan holidays peacefully.
“We want to ensure the public can obtain basic necessities at affordable prices and with adequate supply ahead of the holidays. Food stability is a priority so that people feel calm and purchasing power is maintained,” Widyawati said.
