Gianyar Regency Government Welcomes BI Bali and North Sumatra Officials, Highlights Tourism Success
The Gianyar Regency Government received a working visit from officials of Bank Indonesia (BI) Bali and BI North Sumatra. They came to study the culture-based tourism ecosystem implemented in Gianyar.
“The visit discussed strategies for developing regional potential as an integrated destination based on culture and education, while also serving as a forum for sharing experiences in managing the tourism sector,” said Deputy Regent of Gianyar, Anak Agung Gde Mayun, in his statement on Monday (11/5/2026).
Mayun stated that there are four key elements to the success of tourism in Gianyar, namely cultural identity, empowerment of local communities, and environmental conservation. In addition, cross-sector collaboration is needed, ranging from central government, regional government (local authorities), financial institutions, academics, investors to communities.
“The Gianyar Regency Government itself continues to strive to create a healthy investment ecosystem through improving the quality of public services, strengthening MSMEs, developing the creative economy, digitising services, as well as building supporting infrastructure for tourism and community economy,” explained Mayun.
Various tourism development strategies were presented by three department heads in the meeting between the Gianyar Regency Government, BI Bali officials, and BI North Sumatra. The Head of the Gianyar Tourism Office, Wayan Gede Sedana Putra, discussed the transformation of integrated tourism from cultural heritage towards a digital ecosystem.
The Head of the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office (DPMPTSP) Gianyar, Ni Luh Gede Eka Suary, addressed investment strategies through the tourism ecosystem to drive regional economic growth in Gianyar.
The Functional Planner (Jafung) at the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) Gianyar, Putu Deasy Utamiyanti, discussed strengthening tourism sustainability through cross-sector synergy and sustainable tourism practices. The three main aspects of tourism development, namely environmental sustainability, socio-cultural sustainability, and economic sustainability, must be balanced.
The Director of BI North Sumatra Representative, Iman Gunadi, said that the lessons learned in Gianyar will be used as a reference for developing culture-based tourism in the Danau Toba Special Economic Zone. He also hopes for strong collaboration between regions in promoting economic growth through the tourism sector.
“We hope that the various experiences and inputs obtained through this meeting can serve as references for the future development of the Danau Toba SEZ,” said Gunadi.
