The Gianyar Regency Government has prepared a budget of IDR 107 billion to rehabilitate 131 primary school buildings. Hundreds of primary school buildings in Gianyar are old and no longer fit for purpose. “We are now budgeting IDR 107 billion to rehabilitate 131 primary school buildings,” said Gianyar Regent I Made Agus Mahayastra on Wednesday (15/7/2026). Mahayastra explained that the hundreds of primary school buildings were part of the presidential instruction (inpres) school programme from the Soeharto era. Consequently, the hundreds of school buildings, which have stood since the 1980s, must be rehabilitated immediately. The planned rehabilitation of the 131 primary schools will cover all parts of the buildings, including libraries, toilets, classrooms, teachers’ rooms, and other facilities. “We will repair everything. The damage is extensive. Some school buildings have not been repaired for decades because they are inpres schools from the Pak Harto era,” Mahayastra said. Mahayastra declined to specify when the rehabilitation of the 131 primary school buildings would be completed. According to him, it will take time to rehabilitate the hundreds of primary school buildings in Gianyar. “Because the momentum is that we have the budget, that is why we are repairing them,” he said. Previously, one of the ageing school buildings was SDN 5 Buahan on Jalan Susut, Buahan Village, Payangan District. The Gianyar Regency Government planned to construct a new building and relocate all students and teachers, but the plan has yet to be realised.
