Gianyar is becoming a candidate for the district and city pilot programme for smoke-free zones (KTR). Several policies implemented serve as the basis for considering Gianyar as a KTR candidate.

“The Gianyar Regency Government has undertaken various efforts to support the implementation of smoke-free zones,” said Assistant for General Administration of the Regional Secretariat (Setda) Gianyar, I Ketut Pasek Lanang Sadia, in his statement on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

Sadia stated that several policies have been applied in various places or tourist areas in Gianyar, including those related to cleanliness and being free from tobacco smoke.

The KTR in tourist spots in Gianyar is the result of collaboration and synergy with various regional agencies. “We are collaborating and synergising with cross-organisational regional apparatus to realise this programme,” said Sadia.

The Head of the Gianyar Health Office, Ni Nyoman Ariyuni, said that all regulations regarding KTR have already been issued. Regional Regulation No. 7 of 2014 on KTR was issued in line with the issuance of Government Regulation (PP) No. 28 of 2024.

The implementation of KTR is also strengthened through Regent’s Regulation (Perbup) No. 51 of 2015 as well as the Regent’s Circular. “As a form of policy support in creating a smoke-free environment,” said Ariyuni.
