Giant Sinkhole in Aceh Expands to 3 Hectares
A sinkhole in Ketol, Central Aceh Regency, has expanded to approximately three hectares this year.
Authorities say the widening of the hole has been triggered by ongoing landslides and ground movement.
The phenomenon threatens the livelihoods of local farmers.
Geological research indicates that tuff rock and sand beneath the surface readily absorb groundwater, making slopes vulnerable to landslides.
The expansion of the sinkhole has worsened further following flash floods that struck Aceh-Sumatra at the end of 2025.
