Giant Red and White Flag Flies on the Slopes of Mount Merapi
The spirit of independence soared from the slopes of Mount Merapi on Sunday (16/8/2026). Officers hoisted a 9x6 metre Red and White flag during a ceremony at Bukit Klangon, Cangkringan, Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta. The hoisting of the giant flag was attended by thousands of participants from various elements of society as part of the series of commemorations for the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. Amid the natural landscape of Merapi, the Red and White became a symbol of togetherness and the spirit of residents welcoming the moment of independence.
