Jakarta - A giant banyan tree collapsed onto several buildings and vehicles at Puri Kantor Ubud on Jalan Suweta, Ubud District, Gianyar, Bali. The banyan tree, measuring 2 metres in diameter and 25 metres in height, also struck motor vehicles.

“The incident occurred (yesterday) at 16:30 WITA at Puri Kantor, Ubud,” said Head of the Gianyar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Ida Bagus Putu Suamba on Monday (16/2/2026).

Suamba said the fallen tree struck one restaurant, one minimarket, two cars and one motorcycle. According to him, the three vehicles hit by the tree sustained only minor damage and had already been evacuated.

The incident also caused a power outage along Jalan Suweta. The fallen tree struck electricity poles and damaged the merajan, or family prayer shrine, of Puri Ubud.

“Several shops in the Ubud area were also affected. The fallen tree struck electricity poles as well,” Suamba said.

Head of Public Relations at Gianyar Police Precinct, Inspector Gusti Ngurah Suardita, said the tree collapsed due to old age. The trunk of the banyan tree on its southern side had already rotted.

“The cause of the collapse was the old age of the tree,” he said.
