Iranian Parliament Speaker and chief negotiator with the United States, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has said Washington will not be able to obtain additional concessions from Tehran by increasing pressure on Iran. The US has informed its allies that it is changing its approach towards Iran.

“America thinks that pressing Iran harder will yield concessions that were never part of the agreement. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and War Secretary Pete Hegseth are already far beyond their capabilities. Stop hoping they will suddenly find a magical solution to clean up the mess you created yourselves,” Ghalibaf said on the social media platform X.

On 8 July, US President Donald Trump stated that the ceasefire reached with Iran on the night of 18 June was no longer in effect. Since 8 July, the US military has launched several waves of strikes against Iran. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes were a response to Iranian actions against commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Tehran subsequently retaliated by launching attacks on US bases in several Middle Eastern countries, closing the Strait of Hormuz, and accusing Washington of violating the ceasefire agreement.
