Getting to Know the Deepal S05, an SUV with REEV Technology in Indonesia

The competition in the electric-powered Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) market is heating up with the arrival of the Deepal S05. This Changan sub-brand does not merely offer a futuristic design but also brings technology that serves as a solution to consumers’ doubts regarding range. Adopting a design language titled Symbiotic Aesthetics, the Deepal S05 successfully captivates the eye with its aerodynamic body silhouette. In fact, this car has already secured the iF Design Award 2025, a prestigious recognition on the global design stage. Entering the cabin area, a minimalist atmosphere yet rich with modern technology is strongly evident. One of the most striking features is the absence of the traditional instrument panel behind the steering wheel. Instead, the driver is pampered with a 53-inch Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR-HUD) screen. Information from speed to navigation is projected directly onto the windscreen, ensuring the driver’s concentration remains focused on the road. Speaking of the powertrain, the Deepal S05 offers a highly relevant option for the current infrastructure conditions, namely the Range Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) variant. Unlike conventional hybrid systems, in REEV technology, the wheels are fully driven by an electric motor with 160 kW power or equivalent to 218 PS and 320 Nm torque. The embedded 1,500 cc petrol engine serves only as a generator to charge the battery when the energy level begins to drop. With a 27.28 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, this car can travel 170 km to 200 km (NEDC) in pure electric mode alone. However, with a full petrol tank and full battery, the total claimed range reaches 1,000 km. For the model to be marketed in Indonesia, the battery capacity to be fitted is not yet known. In terms of dimensions, the Deepal S05 measures 4,620 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height. Thanks to a wheelbase of 2,880 mm, legroom for passengers in the second row is exceptionally spacious in its class. Safety features are also impressive. Deepal equips a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) package, from Adaptive Cruise Control to automatic emergency braking. The presence of the Deepal S05 seems to serve as a strong signal to conventional automakers. With the efficient REEV technology combined with smart cabin features, this car is ready to be a serious contender in the electrified SUV segment both globally and regionally.
