Getting to Know 'Supeltas', Traffic Controllers on the Puncak Bogor Alternative Route
Police are partnering with traffic assistant volunteers (Supeltas) during Operasi Ketupat Lodaya 2026 in Bogor Regency, West Java. Dozens of Supeltas are being mobilised to secure the alternative route in the Puncak area.
“On the 12th day of the operation, all personnel from the Megamendung Police Sector are positioned at key traffic points, with the Supeltas team divided into three regions,” said Megamendung Police Chief AKP Desi Triana on Tuesday (24/3/2026).
In synergy with the Supeltas, traffic police from the Bogor Regency Police can more easily monitor conditions and secure the alternative route to ensure smooth vehicle flow. Concerns among tourists about direction guides who hike prices have also been addressed.
“Thanks to our compact teamwork, the route to Puncak, although experiencing traffic slowdowns, remains safely monitored and conducive, with wheels keeping turning,” she explained.
One Supeltas volunteer, Ahmad Yani, recounted how he became involved. He was motivated to help secure the alternative route in Puncak.
Because during the holiday season, even the alternative route often experiences congestion. Thus, this 46-year-old man was moved to assist in easing traffic on the alternative route.
“Yes, to reduce… reduce congestion, help people who are stuck in traffic, so that the route flows smoothly,” he said while directing traffic.
He is stationed around Simpang Gadog in Ciawi Subdistrict. Ahmad has been on duty since the start of Operasi Ketupat. He plans to continue until Sunday.
He receives some compensation money for his services in directing traffic. At his post, most of the passing vehicles are motorbikes.
“If here, mostly motorbikes that are busy,” he shared.
During last Eid, he also served directing traffic. Nevertheless, he feels happy because he can help others.
“Yes, the joy of helping others so that things flow smoothly,” he stated.
Outside of his Supeltas duties, he offers services as a motorcycle taxi driver. He often waits for passengers around Ciawi Subdistrict. For him, becoming a Supeltas is a calling of the soul.
