Getting Closer! Indonesia's Debt to China Hits All-Time High Record
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - From the perspective of the creditor country, Indonesia’s external debt to China in February 2026 was recorded at US$25.574 billion. This figure rose from US$25.123 billion in January 2026. This increase also marks Indonesia’s debt to China achieving a new all-time high record. Previously, the highest record for Indonesia’s debt to China stood at around US$25.048 billion in August 2025. This means the February 2026 position has surpassed the previous highest level and reaffirms that China’s role as one of Indonesia’s main creditors continues to expand. If traced further back, this rise in debt from China also indicates a trend that remains quite strong in recent years. In the landscape of Indonesia’s global creditors, China remains one of the largest lenders, and now its position is getting closer to that of the US.
