Get Ready for WFH/WFA to Return: Initial Schedule Proposed
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Transport Ministry has proposed introducing work from home (WFH) on selected dates before and after the Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027 holiday period. The policy is intended to reduce congestion as people travel during the holiday season.
The ministry’s Director General of Land Transport, Aan Suhanan, said the proposal would be taken to a co-ordination meeting with the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs. The options under discussion also include work from anywhere (WFA).
“There is also a proposal to implement WFH on certain dates. We have noted them and will put them forward at the co-ordination meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, to be implemented as WFH or work from anywhere,” Aan said at a press conference at the Transport Ministry’s office, as quoted on Wednesday (28 October 2026).
Under the initial proposal, WFH would apply on 21 and 22 December 2026, ahead of the peak outbound travel period, and on 4 January 2027, after the peak return journey period.
Aan estimated that outbound travel would peak on 23 December 2026, while the return journey peak is forecast for 3 January 2027.
The projections are based on an analysis of historical public-mobility data by the Transport Policy Agency (BKT), as well as input from toll-road operators (BUJT) and transport associations.
“The proposal was for 21–22 December at the start, and then 4 January at the end, and so on,” he said.
The proposed WFH and WFA arrangements will be discussed further at a co-ordination meeting before any policy is finalised.
