Get Ready! BYD to Inaugurate Rp11.7 Trillion Factory in Subang This Week
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is set to inaugurate its factory in Subang, West Java, this week. This inauguration marks the realisation of BYD’s commitment to building an electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.
BYD is scheduled to officially open its production facility on Thursday, 3 September 2026. In an official statement, BYD Indonesia expressed its appreciation for the support provided by the government and various stakeholders.
“First of all, allow us to express our appreciation for all the support and trust given to BYD Indonesia; we are very proud to be involved in accelerating the development of a clean and sustainable new energy vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia,” BYD wrote, as reported by detikOto on Sunday (30/8/2026).
BYD confirmed that their factory, located within the Subang Smartpolitan Industrial Park in Subang, West Java, represents an investment value of Rp11.7 trillion. The facility, which reportedly has a production capacity of up to 150,000 units per year, spans an area of 126 hectares.
“As part of BYD’s long-term commitment to Indonesia, we have completed the construction of a new energy vehicle assembly facility in Subang Regency, West Java, covering an area of 126 hectares,” BYD stated.
“The presence of this facility serves as a historic milestone in BYD’s journey to support the development of the electrified vehicle industry, strengthen the national automotive manufacturing ecosystem, create opportunities for new employment, and foster growth for local industries,” the invitation continued.
To demonstrate the factory’s readiness in Subang, BYD has already obtained several important certifications, including the World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI) for NIK, a Certificate of Standard, and an Incompletely Knocked Down (IKD) certificate.
Furthermore, the establishment of the BYD factory in Subang will initially focus on the domestic market, although significant export potential remains open.
Currently, there are six BYD electric car models sold domestically: the Seal, M6, Dolphin, Atto 3, Sealion 7, and Atto 1. All six models are currently imported as Completely Built Up (CBU) units from China.
