Get Ready, Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport to Close Tomorrow Morning for Nyepi

Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport recorded a significant surge on the last day of the Eid homecoming. According to Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, Head of the Communication and Legal Division at PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia for Ngurah Rai Airport, all airport activities up to this afternoon proceeded safely, under control, and smoothly.

“The airport situation remains stable despite the sharp increase in passenger movement. Everything has been handled well thanks to solid coordination among all relevant stakeholders,” he stated on Wednesday (18 March 2026).

Traffic data shows that from 13 to 17 March 2026, Ngurah Rai Airport handled 1,984 aircraft movements, an 8% increase compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the number of passengers reached 319,411, up 6% from 2025.

For the busiest domestic routes, flights to Jakarta, Surabaya, and Lombok dominated. The densest international routes included Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Perth, Australia.

On the last day of the homecoming, 18 March 2026, 71,000 passengers were served for travel to various regions. The airport will be temporarily closed starting Thursday morning, 19 March 2026, at 6:00 AM WITA, and will reopen on Friday morning, 20 March 2026, in line with the celebration of Nyepi Day.

Eka Sandi Asmadi advised prospective passengers and airport users to confirm their departure schedules to arrive on time and reunite safely with family.

“Because the airport will close tomorrow morning, we urge all passengers to check their departure schedules so that the homecoming journey and return to family proceed smoothly,” he added.

Ngurah Rai International Airport will halt all flight and airport operations for 24 hours in connection with Nyepi Day of the Caka 1948 Year, on Thursday (19 March).

Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali ensures operational readiness to face two major moments: Nyepi Day and the Eid al-Fitr 1447 H holiday period.
