Get a swig of all the club happenings around Jakarta this weekend
Friday, Feb. 27
There's a brand-new, British-style pub, Mad Dogs, located inside
Cilandak Commercial Estates. Run by a former manager of the M-
Club and The Gate, the place could be a popular after-work
watering hole for all the South Jakarta expats.
The Gate (behind GKBI Bldg., Semanggi) presents "Art of
Tribal" -- a special 5-hour marathon set to be pounded out by
their resident master of tribal, DJ Tablaa. Should get cooking
around 11pm.
Embassy (Taman Ria, Senayan) will be hosting three very
talented international DJs. First up in CO2 will be famed techno
remix producer Christian Smith from Sweden; then, in the main
room female tech-house DJ, Heaven, from the UK; and finally, DJ
Nick Toth from Australia. Should be quite an evening ... !
Things will kick off around midnight.
Club Centro (Dharmawangsa Square, Kemang) will host Mara Sound
System -- the UK production duo consisting of DJ Barry Gilbey and
vocalist Sarah Whittaker. Since their first big club hit, the nu-
school breakbeat anthem Desanitize, they've mesmerized clubs from
London to Amsterdam and Miami to Mexico. Now they're here ... !
Saturday, Feb. 28
Indonesian pop rock band Kahitna, best known for their late-
90's love ballad hit Cantik (pretty), will be playing a concert
at the Plaza Indonesia Entertainment X'nter. Starts at 7:30 p.m.;
rumor says it will be free. Call 3107272 ext. 762 for info.
Into cool, hip, pop-jazz sung by a sensuous lady? Then check
out "Bonita with The Bonnets" at the Zoom Lounge (28th Floor,
Nusantara Bldg.), right next door to Hotel Nikko on Jl. Thamrin.
Live performance starts at 9pm with opening band Nocturne.
La Dolce Vita, located just above Club Centro, will celebrate
its official soft opening with R'n'B, jazz and down-tempo music.
In celebration of the first anniversary of CO2 there will be a
massive music gathering at Embassy (Taman Ria, Senayan) with five
different areas offering 5 different styles of music: house in
the main room, techno and tech-house in CO2, new wave in the
second floor chill room, R'n'B outside and classic disco a few
100 yards away in Manna House. Should be the hap of the
night ...!
It will be another night of Singaporean spin action at Club
Centro (Dharmawangsa Square, Kemang) as Space 2020 presents DJs
Yukun vs Kennerve. Dubbed as Asia's undisputed "Lord of Trance",
Yukun is one of the most respected DJs to ever come out of the
land of Lee Kwan Yew. Spinning alongside will be DJ Kennerve.
Starts at 11 p.m.
The Future boys -- DJs Hogi, Downey, Anton, Bubba and Kulki --
will again invade The Gate (GKBI Bldg., Semanggi) with two full
rooms of dancefloor mayhem. That's house in the main disco and a
walk on the eclectic side in the outer lounge. Get there after 11
p.m.
This will be my last edition of Club Culture, since I'll be
off to Kuala Lumpur for at least the next 6 months. Its been
fun ...! Keep clubbing ...!
