Gerung Traditional Market Set to Be Transformed into Modern Facility with 221 Billion Rupiah Budget
Gerung traditional market in Gerung Selatan village, Gerung district, West Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB), is set to be transformed into a modern facility. An allocation of 221 billion rupiah has been prepared to overhaul the market.
West Lombok Regent Lalu Ahmad Zaini (LAZ) stated that the technical recommendation (rekomtek) for Gerung modern market development has been issued by the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag). The market will be constructed by the Ministry of Public Works (PU) this year.
“The modern market has already received its recommendation, now it just needs to be built,” said LAZ on Monday (16/3/2026).
LAZ emphasised that the term “modern” in the Gerung Market development refers to compliance with Indonesia National Standards (SNI). Gerung modern market will be constructed as a single-storey facility, complete with waste and refuse management systems.
Development of Gerung modern market is currently undergoing a tendering process for detailed engineering design (DED) or detailed technical planning documents at the West Lombok Department of Public Works, Spatial Planning, Housing, and Settlement Areas (PUPRPKP). “The DED must come from us,” said LAZ.
According to LAZ, construction of Gerung modern market will take up to two years. The current traditional market will be relocated and converted into a temporary market until the modern market is completed.
“The relocation will happen soon, we have already leased land and are currently tendering for a temporary market. This modern market should take about one or two years,” explained LAZ.
Additionally, LAZ revealed that he has proposed three traditional markets in West Lombok for renovation using a presidential instruction (inpres) scheme. The three markets proposed are Narmada Market, Gunungsari Market, and Keru Market. “With inpres, the maximum allocation is six billion rupiah,” he noted.
