Germany urged to protect Vietnamese
HANOI (Reuter): Vietnam urged Germany to protect its citizens
following the death of a Vietnamese man, believed to be the
latest in a wave of gangland slayings.
"We have requested the German side to seek for the murderers
diligently and to have active measures to prevent crimes and
protect Vietnamese who are living Germany," the statement said.
It said Hanoi was prepared to work with Bonn to tackle the
problem, which has now seen 63 Vietnamese killed in eastern
Germany since 1992.
German police said last Friday a Vietnamese man had been shot
dead near the eastern town of Magdeburg in what was believed to
be the latest in a five-year series of gangland slayings
involving Vietnamese cigarette smuggling gangs.
