Germany to help rebuild Nias schools

GUNUNG SITOLI, Nias: The German Government has approved the disbursement of US$5 million in building materials to help rebuild schools in Nias and South Nias regencies affected by recent massive quake, an official said on Saturday.

Sakhyan Asmara, the chief of North Sumatra Education Office, said that construction would start in May this year.

For the time being, the office will provide tents in order to allow the students to continue their schooling, said Sakhyan.

Over 700 school buildings were severely damaged in the two regencies after the giant 8.7-magnitude earthquake that rocked the island of Nias on March 28. -- Antara
