Germany to give another $90m to RI
JAKARTA: Germany will provide an additional 76 million euros (US$90 million) to those in Indonesia -- the most affected by last year's earthquake and deadly tidal waves -- to further deepen and strengthen its long-standing development cooperation, the German Embassy in Jakarta says.
On Dec. 26, last year, a deadly tsunami devastated Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam and North Sumatra provinces and killed more than 126,000 people.
The $90 million, which includes 4 million euros ($4.6 million) for emergency avian flu measures -- will be used to support ongoing projects in Aceh.
"The now committed funds will be used mainly for the continuation of ongoing initiatives in the focal areas of health, economic reform and transport as well as the cross cutting issue of decentralization/governance," the embassy said in a press release sent to The Jakarta Post.
Earlier, Germany -- one of the biggest donors to tsunami victims -- provided 65 million euros to Indonesia for the reconstruction of Aceh and Nias, North Sumatra. -- JP
