Germany Enters the Turmoil over the Strait of Hormuz Issue
The German government is likely to join efforts to secure shipping lanes in the Persian Gulf region after the conflict ends, Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said on Thursday.
“We may also be involved in operations in the Strait of Hormuz. For example, if it concerns mine clearance or similar missions,” Dobrindt told ARD broadcaster.
The minister echoed Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s statement that the conflict in the Middle East is “not Germany’s war.”
“We are not part of it. We were not consulted beforehand. We are not involved… Germany can stay out of this situation,” he added.
Regarding migration prospects, Dobrindt said the future situation remains uncertain, but noted that there has been no surge in migration from Iran.
On 14 March, US President Donald Trump called on China, France, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and other countries to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz to ensure navigation security.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that EU countries are not yet ready to send a fleet to the area.
On 28 February, the US and Israel launched attacks on several targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties.
Iran responded by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East in self-defence.
He stated that countries benefiting from shipping security in the strait should pay fees and taxes to Iran.
He added that the volume is equivalent to supplies for about 10 days to two weeks, depending on the calculation method.
According to Azis, the geographical location of the Strait of Hormuz, which channels one-fifth of the world’s oil supply, makes it the most vulnerable point in modern geopolitics.
A British military planning team is reportedly working with the US military to devise steps to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
He stated that countries benefiting from shipping security in the strait should pay fees and taxes to Iran.
Beijing firmly opposes the use of force in international relations.
Macron previously stated on social media that he had spoken with US President Donald Trump and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
This step includes demands for compensation, including payments for all types of losses suffered by Iran, he added.
He warned that Israel’s ambition to overthrow the Iranian government would require a prolonged ground campaign.
