Germany and Indonesia agree to uphold UN Charter to resolve global conflicts

Jakarta - German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has affirmed his country’s commitment alongside Indonesia to fully support the principles of the United Nations Charter in facing increasing violence and conflict in various regions of the world. “We mutually agree that we support a world based on fixed rules. And we also support the elements of the UN Charter,” said President Frank-Walter Steinmeier during a state visit at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday. The statement was delivered by Steinmeier amid a global situation facing severe crises due to warfare. Steinmeier noted ongoing armed conflicts in several regions, including war in Europe, Central Asia, and the unresolved conflict in Sudan. Germany believes that these fixed rule bonds must continue to be deepened going forward. This deepening partnership also encompasses the fields of climate, education, research, and culture. Through this commitment, both countries hope to contribute to creating stability amidst geopolitical dynamics. Strengthening international rules is seen as the main path to resolving inter-regional disputes. The bilateral meeting also served as a space for the two heads of state to align their foreign policy views. Germany and Indonesia agreed that the enforcement of international law is the key to long-term peace. The state visit by the German President was considered highly significant and an indicator of strengthening good bilateral relations between the two countries. “Ladies and gentlemen, I firmly believe that Germany must play a more active and more important role because we need a good partnership with Germany and with Europe,” said the President.
