Germans fall into ravine

PROBOLINGGO, East Java: A German couple fell into a ravine during a hiking trip at Pusung Cilik hill in the Mt. Bromo vicinity near here, Antara reported yesterday.

Rescue workers found both Patrick Vosberg, 27 years old, and his wife, who was not identified by the news agency, but attempts to evacuate their bodies were held back because of bad weather.

The head of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, Sudarmadji, said the two tourists fell 40 to 50 meters because of poor visibility at the time.

"The couple insisted on going on the hiking trip despite bad weather," he said, recalling the time when the Germans left Hotel Yosi where they had been staying. (emb)
